May 19, 2019 | Car Accidents, Safety Information

Being involved in a car accident can wreak havoc on your daily life. Not only do you have to work with your insurance company to get your vehicle fixed, but you may be dealing with injuries that make your day-to-life more challenging.

The following resources are available to inform you of up-to-date information on safety for motor vehicles and motorcycles, product recalls, and tips on working with your insurance company to obtain a more favorable outcome.

Arizona DOT

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is a multi-modal transportation agency serving one of the fastest-growing areas of the country. ADOT is responsible for planning, building and operating a complex highway system in addition to building and maintaining bridges and the Grand Canyon Airport. A major component of the organization is the Motor Vehicle Division, which provides title, registration and driver-license services to the general public throughout the state of Arizona.

Arizona Department of Insurance

AZDOI- our mission is to protect Arizona citizens and businesses by promoting a safe, strong, innovative and competitive insurance marketplace.

Crash Stats – NHTSA

National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA) Motor Vehicle Traffic Crash Data Resource Page

SaferCar.gov

This resource, created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is a wealth of information that we recommend bookmarking and checking regularly. It has safety ratings for new and used cars as well as a database of recalls and investigations. Not only that, but it tracks and monitors complaints and defects for cars, car seats and other equipment.

In a single place, you’ll be able to see how many recalls, complaints and investigations have been filed, as well as review all of the communication initiated by the manufacturer.

National Safety Council (NSC)

The goal of this organization is to eliminate preventable deaths in all areas, including on the road and in communities. They provide research and information to help people make informed decisions and act appropriately to keep themselves and their families safe. They have numerous educational resources on how to educate teen drivers as well.

Motorcycle Safety Foundation

Whether you’re an expert rider or just getting started, this portal covers everything from riding basics, skill practice exercises, and bike schools to enhance your skills and enjoyment.

Insurance Information Institute

Knowledge is power, and this site will arm you with facts about vehicle insurance, ranging from the costs involved, trends, and claims. In addition to data, you’ll also be able to access information that will help you identify a policy that’s right for you and make a claim if necessary.

Medline Plus

This resource, provided by the National Institutes of Health, has a library of videos and tools you can use for education and enrichment on a variety of topics, not just driving. However, for the purpose of this guide, we recommend signing up for their email alert system. It’s a free subscription that sends you up-to-the-minute information as soon as it becomes available. If you want to be updated about an airbag recall for example, this subscription can provide that for you.

US Consumer Product Safety Commission

This site shares the latest news and recalls pertaining to all consumer products, including vehicles. There’s also a link to report unsafe products and view injury statistics for your car. What sets this site apart is its video library where you can see firsthand the statements made by manufacturers who have admitted liability.

US Department of Transportation (DOT)

This government site is a one-stop shop for everything related to transportation. You can use their portal to access Arizona’s state transportation department to get real-time information about highway closures, travel advisories, and new roads and routes.

In addition to accessing local news, you’ll also be able to review crash ratings for vehicles and find out if your car, truck or motorcycle has any recalls associated with it.

The Center for Auto Safety

This non-profit organization runs independently with no government affiliation. Founded in 1970 by Ralph Nader, its goal is to educate consumers about safety and quality as well as fuel economy. This group has a strong consumer advocate focus and is known for helping people return defective vehicles by lobbying for “lemon laws” in all 50 states.
